Canada expanded its wind power production last year at a record pace,
putting it among the top 10 countries that built new turbines in 2009. Data unveiled yesterday by the Global Wind Energy Council showed that

The Global Wind Energy Council this week announced that the world’s wind power capacity grew by 31% in 2009, adding 37.5 gigawatts (GW) to bring total installations up to 157.9 GW. A third of these additions were made in China, which experienced yet another year of over 100% growth. The main markets driving this significant growth continue to be Asia, North America and Europe, each of which installed more than 10 GW of new wind capacity in 2009.
The European Union Energy Council this week reached an agreement on the new Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). Under the agreement any new European building will have to be close to energy neutral by 2020, meaning that a very large share of energy consumption in new buildings will be provided by renewable energy.
The Biomass Thermal Energy Council (BTEC), the Pellet Fuels Institute (PFI), and the Alliance for Green Heat briefed a combined audience of Democrat and Republican congressional staffers about the benefits and viability of biomass thermal energy.
New Delhi, Sep. 10 — With proper incentives, wind power can meet
over 24 percent of India’s energy needs by 2030, says a study
carried out by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the Indian
Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA). Releasing “Indian Wind Energy Outlook 2009″ here

The Biomass Thermal Energy Council (BTEC), a non-profit association dedicated to advancing the use of biomass for heat and other thermal energy applications, would like to thank all of its Founding Members for helping build this new organization. Formed in January 2009, BTEC ended its Founding Member period last week with 57 members in 24 U.S. states and four countries. BTEC greatly appreciates all of their support.
A new energy future is fast approaching. In the U.S., comprehensive climate legislation that will greatly increase the demand for renewable biomass energy is moving through Congress. The Biomass Thermal Energy Council was founded to ensure that the most energy-efficient use of biomass, thermal energy, had a voice in these discussions in Washington. Organizations can join BTEC as Founding Members until July 8.
Monday June 15 is Global Wind Day, an awareness campaign for the promotion of wind energy worldwide, organized by European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). It is being celebrated in 25 countries, promoting awareness of wind energy worldwide and inviting the public to celebrate wind power as a near-term solution to global climate change and a driver for economic growth in local communities.
Florida businesses and workers hoping to break into the green
