NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Veolia Energy North America, a leading provider of sustainable energy services and facility operations and management solutions, announced that its subsidiary and consulting division, SourceOne, was recently selected through a competitive bid process by the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to conduct energy efficiency audits at the facilities of NYPA electricity customers in New York City and Westchester County. NYPA is the largest state-owned power organization in the United States, operating 18 generating facilities and more than 1,400 circuit-miles of transmission lines.
Under this four-year service agreement, Veolia Energy will conduct energy audits for NYPA customers that range from large public institutions to small facilities. This agreement will support NYPA’s energy efficiency work to help achieve New York Governor David A. Paterson’s ambitious “45 by 15” initiative to both reduce electricity use by 15 percent below 2015 forecasts and increase the proportion of renewable generation to 30 percent of electricity demand by that year.
Through these audits, Veolia Energy will provide recommendations and will be responsible for the designing of energy-efficiency projects, putting them out to bid, and reviewing and selecting bidders. This will be done in collaboration with the Power Authority and the NYPA customers whose facilities are benefiting from the energy audits.
“We are thrilled to have secured this successful bid with the New York Power Authority to help promote energy efficiency at downstate public facilities,” said Brian Casey, CEO of SourceOne. “We share NYPA’s commitment to energy efficiency and we are pleased to play a role in reducing energy use at existing facilities along with providing future recommendations for incorporating sustainability measures to help these facilities operate in the healthiest, most environmentally sound manner possible.”
A leader in promoting energy efficiency, developing alternative energy sources and advancing clean transportation initiatives, NYPA’s award-winning energy efficiency programs have contributed to helping make New York State a leader in energy savings. NYPA has undertaken energy efficiency and clean energy projects at more than 3,100 public facilities, saving New York taxpayers over $115 million a year and avoiding nearly 817,000 tons of greenhouse gases annually, which translates into the equivalent of avoiding the use of more than 2 million barrels of oil a year. SourceOne is the newest addition to five other firms currently assisting NYPA with downstate energy audits.
A subsidiary and consulting division of Veolia Energy North America, SourceOne is a nationally recognized power management company, providing support to businesses who view power as critical to their operations, offering a strategic, customized approach to utilizing available resources, and generating new solutions. With offices in Boston, New York City and Los Angeles, SourceOne manages over 850 MW of electric power, 1.5 bcf of natural gas, $500 million of utility processing and $350 million of energy infrastructure development and operation.

BALTIMORE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG) announced today that its subsidiary, Constellation Energy’s Projects & Services Group, was selected by the city of Cranston, Rhode Island to develop the city’s proposal to the Department of Energy’s (DOE) municipal energy efficiency and conservation block grant program. Under the energy efficiency and conservation block grant program, municipalities like Cranston demonstrate how proposed strategies and projects will create energy savings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, utilize renewable energy, and result in the creation of jobs.
“Our goal is to create strategies to improve our community’s long-term energy efficiency in a way that benefits Rhode Island’s economy in the near term,” said city of Cranston Mayor Allan Fung. “We are working with Constellation Energy’s Projects and Services Group to identify projects that will deliver both sustainability and economic value.”
Some of the projects that Cranston will be considering as part of the proposal include energy retrofits for governmental buildings—installing energy efficient lighting, upgrades to heating and air conditioning systems, and improving building insulation—as well as deploying solar and geothermal systems.
“Constellation Energy’s Projects & Services Group has a portfolio of more than 4,000 energy efficiency projects in New England and throughout the U.S. and more than 25 years of experience in doing exactly the types of projects called for by the DOE block grant program,” said Marc Aronson, business development manager for Constellation Energy’s Projects & Services Group. “We’ve been working with the city of Cranston to develop a successful energy efficiency conservation strategy that not only meets the DOE program goals, but also leverages these block grant funds into a sustainable energy program that will serve the city for many years.”
Constellation Energy’s Projects & Services Group is currently working on a number of stimulus initiatives, including energy efficiency and conservation projects for the U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Army.
