Ontario Installs 46 MW of Solar PV in 2009

The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) reports that 40 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic (PV) contracts were in commercial operation by the end of 2009. This represents about 46 MW of installed DC capacity in the industry’s standard notation.

Satcon Gets 38 MW PowerGate Order from GCL

Fresh off the heels of announcing a deal that would send 30-megawatts (MW) of inverters to Greece, Satcon Technology Corporation said this week that it has been selected to ship 38 MW of its PowerGate Plus 500 kW solar PV inverter solutions to GCL Solar Limited, one of China’s largest utility solar power plant developers.

Suzlon To Install 725 MW in US in 2010

Suzlon Wind Energy Corp. said it plans to develop 728 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy projects in the U.S. in 2010. The company plans to put nine projects on the ground in 2010, which will include 351 newly installed wind turbines in seven states.

Kyocera To Manufacture Solar Modules in the US

More big names are moving solar manufacturing to the United States. This week, Kyocera Solar said that it plans to start manufacturing solar modules in San Diego, California, to serve the U.S. market. The U.S. module manufacturing will be another step for the company on the road to its goal of manufacturing 1,000 megawatts of solar cells per year by March 2013.

Proinso Awarded 3.2 MW of Solar Contracts in Greece

Proinso has been awarded the supply of various solar photovoltaic farms in Greece which will all together amount to more than 3.2 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity. Proinso, part of Grupo OPDE, said that the first distribution agreements have been signed with the company Adiva Hellas for several photovoltaic solar farms located on the island of Crete and include the supply of 900 kilowatts (kW) of SMA modules and inverters.

ProLogis To Develop 2.4-MW Rooftop Solar Project in Oregon

ProLogis announced a second solar project in Portland, totaling 2.4 megawatts (MW). Once completed, this project will be the largest rooftop solar system in the Pacific Northwest. ProLogis has signed an agreement with Portland General Electric (PGE) and the project will cover seven buildings and total 2.4 MW.

SunPower & Toshiba Sign 32-MW Supply Deal

SunPower Corp. has confirmed that under a strategic supply agreement, Toshiba Corporation will order 32 megawatts of solar panels from SunPower in 2010. The SunPower panels will form the cornerstone of Toshiba’s new residential solar offering in Japan, to be launched on April 1.

February 23, 2010 – BrightSource Energy, an ACORE member, received a conditional $1.37 billion loan guarantee for a solar thermal power complex in the Mojave Desert that would ultimately produce nearly 400 megawatts of electricity. This project would almost double the existing generation capacity of solar thermal power in the U.S.
